The Collaboratory is an incubator of long term collaborative research in Judaic studies. Our pilot program (executed in partnership with Stanford University in 2015) allowed an extant collaborative endeavor, in this case the multi-volume Feminist Talmud Commentary (Mohr Siebeck), to bring disparate volume editors together to share best practices, trouble shoot, and make sure their works spoke to one another in productive ways. The group participants structured their own time here and built a program that combined individual work, daily workshops, consulting experts, a public round-table, and more.
The Center is committed to supporting this sort of work in a range of forms, and scholars engaged in collaborative projects are encouraged to reach out to us with proposals. We can offer support in the form of seminar and office space at the Katz Center for up to a month in the summer, administrative support, and matching funds, subject to budgetary restrictions. If you have an idea for such a collaborative endeavor and think the Katz Center can push the work forward in productive ways by bringing scholars under one roof, please contact director Steven Weitzman at wsteve@upenn.edu.
