Bio

Benjamin Hary is the director of NYU Tel Aviv and visiting professor of Judaic and Hebrew studies at New York University. His research interests include Judeo-Arabic language and linguistics, Jews in the Islamic world, and sociolinguistics, dialectology, and language variation, especially in Israel.

Hary earned his PhD in Near Eastern Studies from the University of California, Berkeley. He has held fellowships at the Frankel Institute for Advanced Jewish Studies, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and the Oxford Centre for Hebrew and Jewish Studies.
