Medieval Muslim Jewish Polemics and Nineteenth-Century Jewish Scholars

Bio

Daniel Boušek is an assistant professor at the Institute of Near Eastern and African Studies at Charles University in Prague. His main interest focuses on the medieval literature and culture of the Jews in Islamic countries. His book, Polemics of Islam with Judaism and the Hebrew Bible in the Middle Ages: Ibn Hazm and Samawʾal al-Maghribī, was published in 2013. In the same year he coauthored a Czech translation from Judeo-Arabic of Jehuda ha-Leviʼs Book of Refutation and Proof on Behalf of the Despised Religion (The Book of the Khazars) known as The Kuzari. This year at the Katz Center, Professor Boušek will analyze the contribution of nineteenth-century Jewish scholars to Islamic studies and their interest in medieval Muslim-Jewish polemics.
