Elisheva Baumgarten is Senior Lecturer in the Department of Jewish Studies and the Gender Studies Program at Bar-Ilan University. Her academic interests include medieval history; social history and anthropology; and applications of gender methodology to medieval studies focusing primarily on Germany and Northern France in the High Middle Ages. She is the author of Mothers and Children: Jewish Family Life in Medieval Europe (2004); and Practicing Piety: Religious Observance and Daily Life in the Medieval Jewish Communities of Northern Europe (forthcoming). At the Center, Baumgarten studies the history of Jewish marriage in Christian Europe.
